Our Story

Where the roots lead.

Wilder Roots is a family homestead at the start of our business journey. We are building it carefully and honestly, alongside our kids — so that everything that grows from here grows on solid ground.

Where it began.

Maeve at her mud kitchen, the chalkboard lettered 'Wilder Roots' — where the brand got its name.

The first artifact of Wilder Roots was a mud kitchen with a chalkboard in the garden — our daughter's "mud-desk" — with the brand name written on it before anything was growing under our name yet. It's where the idea sparked.

The first rack arrived shortly after. The shelves got rinsed in the sink. The lights — pink and white, panels chosen carefully so the greens photograph the way they really look — went on a timer. The first seeds went into substrate that night. By morning, Wilder Roots had a physical form: trays under light, already growing.

That's the pattern we want to keep — build the real thing first, then tell its story.

What we're growing toward.

Microgreens are the start because they're the right kind of hard: every cycle teaches us something, and the quality supports honest pricing. They're a school dressed up as a product.

What comes after, we're being deliberate about. Sourdough, ginger tea, canned goods — each one earns its place by being something we've genuinely made well, not just something we could list for sale. If you've got a strong opinion about what you'd love to see, the form at the bottom of the homepage is for exactly that. We read every idea.

Further out, there's a book series. Watercolor-illustrated, kid-led, set in a garden that gets a little wilder every season. We're not writing them yet. We're living them.

Why the kids are in the room.

The deeper reason Wilder Roots exists is that we want our kids to grow up around a small business. Not as a chore — as something they're inside of. They'll see what it takes to nurture a living thing. They'll watch us screw up the timer and learn what happens. They'll do the harvest. They'll pack the boxes. They'll pick the names.

One day they'll be the ones explaining all this to someone new. That's the plan.

Family

Built with the kids, for the kind of life we want them to remember.

Land

Soil first. Small batches. Nothing rushed and nothing wasted.

Craft

Made honestly, sold transparently, improved every cycle.

And the tech part.

We build software for a living, and Wilder Roots is where that and the homestead meet. It starts with a site that's fast and honest. Over time we want to weave in smart tools — AI included — that lift not just our own rack but the whole craft of small-scale growing. Homestead first, always; technology only where it genuinely makes the growing better, for us and for growers like us.

What's next

What would you love to see grow here?

We might grow into other things over time — but only the ones we can do well. If there's something a homestead like ours could make that would matter to you, tell us. We'll keep your idea in mind and write back when we revisit it.

We read every idea. Real reply when we can.
